Solo Sunday is thrilled to present a wide variety of productions and performers, from Chicago and beyond. Every month brings an all-new show. You may take in an acclaimed touring fringe festival show, a stunning musical performance, a riveting account of Chicago history, a hilarious comedic monologue, a heartbreaking family story, and so much more.
On select Sundays, we gather in an upstairs dining room at Mrs. Murphy & Sons Irish Bistro in North Center for solo performance in a space so intimate and personal that shows feel like private performances.
Arrive early for a pre-show meal from the bistro's acclaimed menu, often accompanied by a live Irish music session, or make an evening of it with post-show drinks and conversation.

There Were Signs
By Liz Allen April 13th, 2025 @ 6:30 In THERE WERE SIGNS, Liz Allen, a well-known Chicago improv coach, chronicles her unexpected move in 2004 from Chicago to Las Vegas with her husband and then-toddler son. Liz shares about life off-Strip, with slot machines in the grocery stores, Elvis on the school board, and a surprising prevalence of Mormons. In this comedic loopback, Liz recounts her ups and downs of forging family life in the hot desert under neon signs in a city famous for debauchery. |
For the past 31 years, Liz Allen has performed, coached, and directed improv. Liz performed with iO Chicago’s house team Frank Booth, taking the first-ever long-form improv show to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 1995. She was iO Chicago’s Training Center Director for 3 years, and in 1999, 2000 & 2001, Liz won iO Chicago’s Coach of the Year Award, renamed Liz Allen Excellence in Teaching Award. She’s directed numerous improvised and scripted pieces, including a main stage revue for The Second City at the Flamingo Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, the first-ever fully improvised show on The Strip. In 2006, with Jimmy Carrane, Liz co-wrote the book Improvising Better (Heinemann). The Vegas Theater Hub awarded Liz as Guest Speaker of the Year and Best Workshop of the Year 2015. Liz was honored to coach The Commune, the improv ensemble in Mike Birbiglia’s 2016 feature film Don’t Think Twice. At the 2019 Rollins College Winter with the Writers Festival, Liz was selected to be a guest speaker and featured author.

Funnypina
By Jozie Fox May 4th, 2025 @ 3:30 Jozie's touching and funny journey from the Philippines to the U.S., where she embraces being a mom, a wife, and a daughter. Join her for an evening of laughter, self-discovery, and celebration as she transforms from feeling like a "Fakapina" to proudly becoming a "Funnypina." |
Born in the Philippines and raised in San Francisco, Jozie Fox has called Chicago home for more than 20 years. She's done it all—theater, commercials, voice-overs, indie films. She dabbled in improv, but nothing clicked until she stumbled into storytelling and stand-up comedy just before the pandemic. Jozie Fox is very excited to premiere her first solo show, “Funnypina”. She is ever so grateful for the feedback of Jennifer Leo (coach extraordinaire, screenwriter, and fellow comedian) and Kurtis Matthews (owner/founder of San Francisco Comedy College). This show is dedicated to Jozie’s toughest critics: her husband and 15-year-old son. You can find her on YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook under the handle @whatswhatwithjozie, and visit her website at www.joziefox.com
