Q: What is this exactly?
A: Solo Sunday is an event series at Mrs. Murphy & Sons (3905 N Lincoln) in Chicago's North Center neighborhood. At least once a month, on a Sunday afternoon, we will present solo performance in an intimate setting.
Q: What kinds of shows will I see?
A: You may experience a a comedic monologue, a riveting historical piece, a touring fringe festival show, a memorable evening of music and stories, one-person Hamlet, a puppet show, and so much more.
Q: Where do I get info or tickets for upcoming performances?
A: Right here!
Q: Can I eat or drink during the performance?
A: Dining from the acclaimed menu at the Bistro is available before and after the performances. Reservations are not required, but please arrive extra early if you plan one eating before the show. Pre-show diners can enjoy a live Irish music session along with their meals. Drinks can be brought upstairs.
Q: Will I have an assigned seat?
A; Seating is general admission. While there are no bad seats in the space, arriving when doors open 30 minutes before start time is the best way to have your choice. Due to the set up, large parties or parties arriving closer to show time may be seated separately.
Q: Is this space/venue accessible?
A: 100%. There is an elevator to the upstairs space, and we are happy to provide any accommodations needed.
Q: Where can I park?
A: Limited free parking for about 25 vehicles is available in a lot 200 feet south of Murphy's on the east side of the street, just past Byron. There is also quite a bit of metered parking on Lincoln, and a municipal pay lot a block south on the west side of Lincoln at Berenice. Finally, there are free spots sometimes open on surrounding side streets.
Q: Are the shows family friendly?
A: Guests under 21 are allowed. Material will vary by show, but for most performances, we'd say teens and up would be fine . For details on the specific show, please check the ticketing page. We are planning performances specifically for children in the future.
Q: Are there currently any Covid restrictions or rules?
A: We are following all national and local guidelines, so a mask is not required at this time, nor will we be checking vaccination cards. You are absolutely welcome to wear a mask! We also trust you to stay home if you are symptomatic or have had a recent exposure. We will be running the high powered ventilation system in the space, and will supplement with two medical grade HEPA filtration units turning over the air in the room several times per hour.
Q: Can I get a refund?
A: Ticket purchases are non-refundable. In the event of a show cancellation, a full refund will be processed.
Q: Why are you called The Jekot Theater Company?
A: With the blessing of his family, we are honored to name our company after our friend, colleague, and talented storyteller, Joe Jekot. The Chicago storytelling community lost Joe in 2019, and he is greatly missed. We wanted to keep his name and spirit alive in the work that we do. Learn more about Joe here.
Q: I am a solo artist. How can I get involved?
A: We will be booking a wide variety of performers and productions for upcoming months. We'll consider all inquiries, and are open to any sort of solo performance. You can introduce yourself and get on our radar here.
